Biografie
Yannis Labrou is Principal Research Scientist bij Verisign Labs waar hij de leiding heeft over de inspanningen om waarde te creëren uit de schat aan gegevens die de activiteiten van Verisign elke dag genereren.
Yannis geeft Verisign 20 jaar ervaring in het bedenken, creëren en verwezenlijken van innovaties; dat betekent groot denken gecombineerd met het doorlopen van het moeizame proces om ideeën te verwerkelijken. Hij heeft dat gedaan in een academische omgeving, bij een pas opgericht bedrijf, terwijl hij onderzoeken deed die werden gesponsord door de overheid en DoD/DARPA en voor een wereldwijd opererend Fortune 200-bedrijf.
Yannis was daarvoor Senior Researcher bij Fujitsu Laboratories of America (FLA), een eenheid van de globale R&D-tak van Fujitsu Ltd. waar hij verantwoordelijk was voor alle aspecten van het proces van creëren en commercialiseren van innovatie binnen de groep onderzoekers en ontwikkelaars waarover hij de leiding had, in de toepassingsgebieden Ubiquitous Computing, Mobile Payments, Security en Big Data Search.
Voor hij bij Fujitsu aan de slag ging, was Yannis Director of Technology en lid van het leidinggevend personeel van PowerMarket, een pas opgericht, met durfkapitaal gefinancierd bedrijf voor bedrijfssoftware (aanvoerketen). Als een van de eerste werknemers bij PowerMarket, was hij betrokken bij alle technologie- en productgerelateerde activiteiten, had hij leiding over de technologische planning, intellectueel eigendom en technologische partnerschappen, samenwerkingen en overnames.
Voor hij bij PowerMarktet werkte, was Yannis Research Assistant Professor bij de CSEE Dept. van de UMBC, waar hij les gaf, deelnam aan werkzaamheden voor standaardisering en onderzoek deed op het gebied van Artificial Intelligence, Software Agents, Information Retrieval, Enterprise Software en Supply Chain Management.
Toen hij nog op de hogeschool zat, liep hij stage bij IBM's TJ Watson Research Center.
Yannis behaalde zijn Ph.D. in Computer Science aan de UMBC, waar zijn onderzoek gericht was op software-agenten, en een diploma in fysica aan de Universiteit van Athene, Griekenland. Hij heeft meer dan 40, door vakgenoten getoetste, publicaties geschreven met bijna 4.000 citaten en de USPTO heeft hem 14 patenten toegewezen. Zijn huidig onderzoek is gericht op Gegevens door de volledige levenscyclus heen, vanaf het ontstaan tot aan het op de markt brengen.
