Stefan Topfer

Stefan Töpfer, FIoEE
WinWeb Founder & Group CEO

Stefan started his first business over three decades ago whilst still at University and has run businesses ever since then. He has a large amount of experience in the SME sector and specialises in providing IT infrastructure that allows small businesses to succeed and compete with the “big boys”.

His first business ventures included designing and manufacturing industrial computer control systems and early internet applications like email. Stefan was also involved with the import and export of industrial goods.

In 1995 he built Nacamar Group PLC (now part of the Tiscali / Carphone Warehouse network) totally from scratch into one of the biggest ISPs in Europe before selling it at the height of the DotCom boom.

After that success in 2000 he revisited another of his start-ups, WinWeb, which he had established back in 1994 as a way to help small and home businesses get online. With new technology he was able to design an on-demand SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) infrastructure for businesses, one of the first of its kind.

By 2005 initial development was complete (although new features and applications continue to be introduced even now) and it was the first ever on-demand accounting software to be accredited by the Institute of Chartered Accountants. The WinWeb software today encompasses a full range of integrated solutions for business and is even used by large multinational corporations.

Since 2006 Stefan has been writing about small business and the various issues they face on his blog "The Small Business Blog". Over years the blog has grown to become the number one ranked blog for small businesses and entrepreneurs. He also has his own column on NASDAQ.com.

Stefan speaks regularly at business conferences and software events on the subject of cloud infrastructure. In 2010 he received an Honorary Fellowship from the Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs (Hon. FIoEE) for his contributions to learning and education for small business owners.

In 2011 he became the first Advisory Council Chairman of the IoEE. He also sits on the SFEDI Advisory Board, the not-for-profit standards setting body for both Business Enterprise and Business Support. Stefan is also heavily involved with social enterprise organisations like The Enterprise Rockers that help small businesses to succeed.
