State of DNS Availability

Few companies can afford the damage - financial and otherwise - that can result from a DNS failure. Yet, the latest Verisign State of the DNS Availability Report shows that during the second quarter of 2011, DNS availability was a problem for many of the Internet's top-ranked sites, including top online retailers. Data gathered from a global sample of websites reveals that sites hosting their own DNS - which happens to be most enterprises - are far more adversely impacted by availability problems than sites using third-party managed DNS providers. This is because comprehensive DNS management requires careful planning, substantial expertise and considerable resources - requirements that few enterprises and even ISPs are in a position to meet.
