Verisign New gTLD Services
Today's online world is defined by 22 different generic top-level domains (gTLDs), including .com and .net, and approximately 250 country code TLDs (ccTLDs) such as .de and .jp.
That is about to change. In the coming year, it is anticipated that organisations will be able to propose and apply for gTLDs associated with particular interests or business sectors. These domain names may help organisations enhance branding, revenue, security and user interaction.

As the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) begins to approve applications for new gTLDs, hundreds of new extensions may be introduced. New gTLDs will probably fall into the following categories:
